On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and in association with the panel discussion One Year into the Full-Scale Invasion: Europe’s Role in Securing Ukraine’s Victory, the Open Society Foundations and the ArtEast Gallery present the opening of this exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian art. Some artists represented in the show will be present for this in-person event.
The exhibit demonstrates the persistence of creative energy despite the harshness of war. Contemporary Ukrainian art is a manifestation of the unalterable ingenuity of its artists and of their deep desire for freedom. The selected works convey an experience of the most absolute violence, universal and also deeply personal.
New works will be featured from artists Kinder Album, Vlada Ralko and Vladimir Budnikov, Olesya Dzhurayeva, Julia Beliaeva, Sergey Kononov, Rostislaw Tsarenko, and the duo Etchingroom1. The title “The Time Has Come” references Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko.
After this opening event, the exhibit will be open to the public Monday through Friday, February 24 to March 24, 9:00–17:00. Admission is free and no registration is required.
