More than a year and a half after #MeToo’s popularization by several famous actresses—and 12 years after activist Tarana Burke coined the phrase—we are still thinking through the movement in the hopes it will last beyond celebrities wearing black on red carpets.
This will be a hard-hitting, lively talk about #MeToo and labor, shifting paradigms, restorative justice, and how celebrities both enabled and distorted this movement. And we will question how #MeToo fits into the legacy of feminism and the history of sexual harassment.
This event is part of the Open Society Foundations Women’s Rights Program’s Ask a Feminist series, which aims to inspire a broader conversation about the meaning and practice of intersectional feminism.
