The OSI Campaign for Black Male Achievement hosted a roundtable discussion for advocates and practitioners to shine a light on the organizations and leaders that are focusing on solutions to the crisis in America facing black men and boys.

Shawn Dove, Manager of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, facilitated the conversation with the following participants.

Participants

  • Kenneth Barnes Sr., Founder of Reaching Out to Others Together (ROOT), a nonprofit committed to advocacy, awareness, and education to reduce incidents of youth and gun violence.
  • Kenneth Braswell, Director of the New York State Fatherhood Initiative, which works to involve noncustodial parents in the economic and social well-being of their children.
  • Joseph T. Jones Jr., Founder of the Center for Urban Families, which empowers low-income families by enhancing the ability of women and men to contribute as wage earners and of men to fulfill their roles as fathers.
  • David C. Miller, Co-Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of the Urban Leadership Institute; architect of Dare to Be King, a community-based intervention that addresses anger, moral reasoning, and decision making among African American males ages 12 to 17.
  • Derek H. Suite MD, Founder of Full Circle Health, a community mental-health resource; and Founder of the Life Enrichment Center, dedicated to providing culturally relevant psychoeducation and training.
