Conference: Democracy's International Challenges

On Tuesday, June 17, Thomas Carothers, of the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, D.C., and Steven Everts, Adviser to High Representative Solana, will be among the speakers at an international conference jointly organized by CEPS (the Centre for European Policy Studies), the FRIDE Foundation and the Open Society Institute.

Participants will explore the new challenges faced by advocates of global democratization, including the apparent "smarter authoritarianism" observed in a considerable number of countries, especially in Europe's Mediterranean and East European neighborhood, as well as the rise of new global players, notably Russia and China.
