Nicaragua's Supreme Court decision to allow President Daniel Ortega to run for consecutive re-election is yet another controversial decision by the Sandinista government.  President Ortega's excessive control has produced legal and political conflicts over presidential powers and constitutional prerogatives. Democracy is eroding. The National Assembly’s divided opposition and the formation of an anti-Ortega coalition with support from former President Arnoldo Alemán further complicate Nicaragua's political environment. At this event cosponsored by the Open Society Foundations and the Woodrow Wilson Center, journalist Carlos Fernando Chamorro discusses Nicaragua's state of affairs.
