Discussion on Migration in Central America

  • When
  • June 28, 2010
    5:30–11:00 a.m. (EDT)
  • Where
  • Migration Policy Institute, Washington, DC

The Open Society Institute, Inter-American Dialogue, and the Migration Policy Institute host a discussion on migration in Central America with the award-winning documentary team from El Faro, an online news service based in El Salvador.  The discussion will feature cinematographer Marcela Zamora, journalist Oscar Martínez, and photographer Edu Ponces. Carlos Dada, reporter and director of El Faro, will moderate.

Over the past two years, the featured speakers have carried out a multimedia project on the plight of Central American migrants in Mexico, uncovering their dangerous journey north.  To further stimulate the discussion, short clips will be shown from Mujeres en el camino, a documentary that follows the trail of migrant women over a five-month period through El Salvador, Guatemala, and seven Mexican states.
