The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia

The Open Society Justice Initiative sponsored a colloquium on the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), the tribunal that will try former members of the Khmer Rouge. A panel of experts discussed the ECCC, its challenges, and its chances for success.

Speakers included:

  • Diane Orentlicher, Professor of International Law, American University;
  • David Scheffer, Former Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues;
  • Socheata Poeuv, Independent Filmmaker.

The event also marked the publication of Justice Initiatives: The Extraordinary Chambers, a 160-page journal featuring articles on the ECCC by Hon. Patricia Wald, Craig Etcheson, Steve Heder, Dinah PoKempner, His Excellency Sok An, Kek Gallabru, and others.
