OSI hosted a screening by director and journalist Maziar Bahari of his award-winning film And Along Came a Spider. The film provides an insightful and revealing portrayal of a mass murderer on a spiritual quest to cleanse society of the morally corrupt. The film addresses some of Iran's most contentious societal problems, such as prostitution, drug addiction, and sexual inequality. This highly regarded documentary has been shown at the Tribeca Film Festival, the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and the HotDocs Festival in Toronto, where it won Honorable Mention for International Documentary Short to Mid-length. The film was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Investigative Journalism. The presentation was intended to build awareness of issues encountered by sex workers and to foster the development of local communities regarding sexual health and rights.
