The Open Society Institute hosted a discussion on the future of news, led by former Wall Street Journal editor Paul Steiger.
Steiger runs the nonprofit ProPublica, which produces and publishes investigative reporting and distributes it free of charge to news outlets. ProPublica stories have been picked up by 60 Minutes, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Politico, Salon, and Slate, among other venues. At this event, Steiger spoke about new business models for reporting, their strengths and weaknesses, and what it takes to produce high-quality journalism.
Open Society Fellow Mark Schoofs introduced the event.
