The Open Society Institute Network Women’s Program and V-Day Karama sponsored a panel featuring women leaders from the Middle East and North Africa attending the 51st Session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women.

Women activists and leaders from Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia discussed exceptional strategies and strengths for challenging gender violence against difficult odds.

  • Amal Mahmoud Fayed, Egypt: CEDAW NGO Coalition Coordinator, Secretary General of Women’s Development Forum, V-Day Karama Regional Advisor
  • Fethia Saidi, Tunisia: Sociologist at University of Tunis and Tunisian Women for Research and Development, producer of national social TV show
  • Saadia Wadah, Morocco: Head of the Moroccan Women’s Association to Combat Violence, Member of the Arab Women Court
  • Azza Kamel, Egypt: Founder and Director of Appropriate Communication Techniques in Cairo, gender trainer for UN agencies, foundations, and NGOs
