Universidad de los Andes, an Open Society Institute grantee, is organizing a conference to launch the book Illicit Drugs in Colombia, edited by Alejandro Gaviria and Daniel Meija. The book aims to contribute to the public debate about illicit drugs in Colombia by bringing together contributions from different fields to the study of drug policy in Colombia.
Discussants include: Peter Reuter (University of Maryland), Jon Caulkins (Carnegie Mellon University), Elvira Maria Restrepo (University of Miami), Juan Tokatlian (Universidad Torcuato Di Tella), and Beau Kilmer (RAND). The conference will be in Spanish, with translation into English.
Daniel Meija is also the co-author of the first independent evaluation of the anti-drug policies implemented under Plan Colombia: The War on Illegal Drug Production and Trafficking: An Economic Evaluation of Plan Colombia. This study evaluated the costs, efficiency, effectiveness, and future prospects of the war against illegal drug production and trafficking under Plan Colombia.
