International Harm Reduction Conference

One of the most important events in the international drug policy calendar, this conference brings experts together to exchange experience on harm reduction and drug policy practices worldwide. This year's theme is Harm Reduction: The Next Generation.

Michel Sidibé, head of UNAIDS, will make the keynote opening address. Current grantees of the Open Society Institute Global Drug Policy program will present on issues such as:

  • Harm Reduction for Producer Nations? Farmers' Perspectives on the War on Drugs (Institute for Policy Studies; Transnational Institute)
  • Young Drug Users: Emerging Drugs and New Trends (ESPOLEA, Youth RISE)
  • Integrating Harm Reduction into Medical Practices (International Doctors for Healthy Drug Policies)
  • Challenges for Developed or Well-Funded National Approaches (Eurasian Harm Reduction Network)
  • Decriminalisation: Pushing the Limits of Drug Control (International Drug Policy Consortium)
  • How Successful Have Global Efforts to Expand HIV Prevention Been?: Results of a Global Systematic Review (UN Reference Group on HIV and Drug Use)
  • Harm Reduction in Europe (International Network of People who Use Drugs).
