Knowing that their own African American son, Idris, would face challenges as he navigated school, Michele Stephenson and Joe Brewster filmed the experience and produced an award-winning documentary, American Promise. Their work continues as they share the latest research and personal anecdotes in their new book Promises Kept: Raising Black Boys to Succeed in School and in Life.

This event is part of Open Society Institute–Baltimore’s Talking About Race series, co-sponsored by the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

The event is free and open to the public.
