Faced with budget crises and failures in the justice system, many states have implemented smart-on-crime policies to protect both public safety and taxpayer dollars. Members of Congress who seek to rein in spending while improving the effectiveness of the criminal justice system should look to state leaders who have already developed and put into practice improvements to state systems.

At this briefing, a distinguished panel of state practitioners and policy experts will offer their experiences studying and implementing smart-on-crime approaches to criminal justice.
