Saving Our Sons 2010: Building Community and Defying Expectations (July 7, 2010)

The Eagle Academy Foundation, an Open Society Foundations Campaign for Black Male Achievement grantee, hosted their second annual Summer Professional Development Institute. This year, the conference theme was "Saving Our Sons 2010: Building Community and Defying Expectations." Over three days, teachers and educators from across the country learned about Eagle Academy's work to improve the educational outcomes of African American and Latino boys,  as well as discussed strategies that practitioners can use every day in the classroom.

Audio from the July 7 welcome reception is available above. Speakers at that event included:

  • Shawn Dove, Manager, Open Society Institute's Campaign for Black Male Achievement
  • David Banks, President, Eagle Academy Foundation
  • Shaun Neblett, Teacher, Eagle Academy for Young Men
  • Daquan Smith, Student, Eagle Academy for Young Men
