Update on the Burma Uprising (October 26, 2007)

The Open Society Institute held an in-house update with Burma experts on current political conditions in the country. Topics discussed included how the uprising began, the challenges now faced by pro-democracy activists, and efforts to lobby the UN to enforce Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security.

  • Todd Pierce, former Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Information Service in Rangoon
  • Lway Aye Nang, Women's League of Burma
  • Maureen Aung-Thwin, Director of the OSI Burma Project/Southeast Asia Initiative, introduced the event
