The conference Urban Drug Policies in the Globalised World focuses on key debates and recent developments in urban drug policy. It brings together groups of anti-drug policymakers from the municipal level, including politicians, experts focused on planning and implementing drug interventions at the municipal level, and researchers focused on urban drug interventions.

The conference is divided into three segments:

  • high-level panel discussions among municipal policy makers (i.e. mayors and executive officers responsible for drug-related issues);
  • seminars focused on (a) municipal drug policies and how they fit in with global and national drug policies, legislation, and treaties, (b) the latest drug policy interventions at the urban and local levels and their impacts, and (c) epidemiology, criminology, and other research fields in the analysis of the urban drug situation;
  • workshops by EU officials on the practical aspects of implementing novel interventions in prevention, treatment, law enforcement and harm reduction.
