This forum marks the launch of Baltimore REACH, a community health consortium. Speakers include Thomas O Toole, MD, a program officer from OSI's Medicine as a Profession (MAP) program, and Barbra Levin, the executive director of Baltimore REACH.
O'Toole and Levin will discuss findings, outlined in the June 2004 issue of the Journal of Urban Health, on the state of the urban safety net. O'Toole and Baltimore REACH are the authors of that study.
Formed in 2000 as a MAP initiative, Baltimore REACH has grown into a consortium of community-based service providers that use multi-disciplinary approaches to meet the needs of underserved urban populations while also drawing on frontline experiences with their clients to advocate for better health services for low-income people in Baltimore.
The event is part of "Forging Open Society: Generating Ideas, Partnerships and Solutions," forums convened by OSI-Baltimore to encourage community leaders with diverse perspectives to craft solutions to challenges facing the Baltimore region.
