OSI hosted a discussion with Dr. Muborak Sharipova, co-founder of the NGO Open Asia, on the challenges and opportunities women face in Tajikistan in the wake of the February 27, 2005, parliamentary vote.

According to OSCE monitors, the vote was marred by ballot-stuffing and other improprieties at the polls, ensuring the continued dominance of the ruling presidential party. Protests following the elections quickly lost steam due to lack of public interest.
