As the fourth lecturer in the OSI-Baltimore 2003-2004 "School Discipline Policies and their Criminal Justice Consequences" forum series, Bernardine Dohrn discussed "zero tolerance" school discipline policies implemented in the wake of the Columbine school shooting and the adverse effects of these policies on young people and the community. Dohrn, the founder and director of the Children and Family Justice Center in Chicago, focused specifically on the roles played by the media, law enforcement, and schools in establishing a climate of fear. Her talk provided context for this year's criminal justice forum series, explained the issues involved, and provided a criminal justice perspective on school discipline.
