Congressional Hearing Discriminates Against Religious Minority

The Open Society Foundations has raised serious concern over the U.S. congressional hearing targeting American Muslims.

In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the Open Society Foundations and 50 organizations, including leading Muslim, faith-based, and human rights groups, objected to the hearing.

The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Singling out a group of Americans for government scrutiny based on their faith is divisive and wrong. Muslims are an integral part of America and should be treated as such.

"Congress should not help create a climate where it is acceptable to target a particular faith community for discrimination, harassment, and violence,” wrote the organizations in their letter.

The signatories included Muslim Advocates, Amnesty International, Human Rights First, Interfaith Alliance, and Center for Constitutional Rights.
