Experts Address Ability of Europe’s Health Care Systems to Meet the Needs of Roma

With support from the Open Society Foundations, the Medical School of the University of Pecs organized a workshop on Roma health issues during the Third Conference on Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health in Europe on May 27–29, entitled “Are Health Care Systems Prepared to Handle the Health Needs of the Roma Minority?” The workshop attracted a wide range of academics and policymakers.

The grant from the Roma Health Project, part of the Open Society Public Health Program, also supported the participation of Roma researchers, who delivered presentations in various workshops at the conference. Zola Kondur, representing the Ukrainian organization Cirikli, contributed to the event as a keynote speaker. Piotr Mierzewski, a representative of the Council of Europe, delivered a presentation on the new outlines of the Council's migrant and ethnic minority health policy.
