NEW YORK—EurasiaNet, a news website that focuses on the South Caucasus region, today launched a special feature devoted to Armenia’s upcoming presidential election.
The feature, Armenia: Vote 2008, provides detailed information on the candidates and main issues connected with the February 19 balloting. The vote is a landmark development for Armenia, as it will mark the country’s first transfer of executive power via the ballot box in its post-Soviet history.
The EurasiaNet feature—found at www.eurasianet.org/armenia08/—contains profiles of the nine presidential candidates, including Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisian, the favorite to succeed retiring President Robert Kocharian. Leading opposition challengers Levon Ter-Petrosian and Artur Baghdasarian are also profiled. In addition, the feature takes an in-depth look at corruption in Armenia.
The site will be updated several times daily with fresh analysis, articles, and photos through Election Day. There is also an interactive component that allows readers to voice their opinions on economic and political developments in Armenia.
