OSI-Supported Project Promotes Interethnic Understanding Among Macedonian Youth

Final approval has been received from the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) for the Macedonian "Unity in Action" multi-ethnic youth participation project. The project's aim is to promote interethnic harmony and understanding among young people in interethnic communities in Struga, Skopje, Kumanovo, and Kicevo.

This goal will be achieved by raising awareness among youth of the benefits of dialogue, inter-ethnic understanding, and by equipping the youth from various ethnic groups with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for them to participate equally in Macedonia's transformation to a democratic, peaceful, and open society.

Under the terms of the project, a network of youth clubs will be created that will bring together groups of young people from ethnically mixed high schools to think critically and creatively about different aspects of their lives, while discussing topics such as culture and multiculturalism, values and human rights, stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination as well as to engage each other in broader community actions.

The project is also supported by Foundation Open Society Institute–Macedonia and the OSI Youth Initiative.
