Mental Health Initiative Supports Monitoring Project in Romania to Advance Rights of People with Disabilities

The Mental Health Initiative is supporting the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) to develop and launch a new project to monitor and advance the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Romania.

The project aims to build local capacity for professional monitoring and to advocate for transparent and effective policymaking to promote the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.

The project will focus on two priority areas: Article 19 (living independently and being included in the community) and Article 17 (work and employment). IPP will assess how local and national authorities safeguard and ensure the rights of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, and what measures the authorities take to facilitate employment and social inclusion for people with disabilities.

Monitoring results will be included in a report that IPP will use in its advocacy activities at the national and local levels.
