This report by the Institute of Public Affairs, a grantee of the Open Society Global Drug Policy Program, looks at the financial costs of the penalization of drug possession in Poland.
The findings show that the enforcement of the punitive law costs the state approximately 80 million PLN (more than $25 million) per year. In spite of the high costs, the representatives of both law enforcement services and the judiciary have found that the enforcement of the current bill does not result in mitigating drug problems in Poland.
This report summary, available for download, describes the main findings of the study and introduces the institute's recommendations.
