The European Union's "Democratic Deficit": Bridging the Gap between Citizens and EU Institutions

This article first briefly examines the main EU policymaking institutions to reach a broader understanding of a perceived democratic deficit. A discussion then follows that highlights the citizens’ perception of the EU’s decision-making process, and some European civil service responses towards democratizing the EU institutions. In conclusion, several proposals are put forward as a start to bridging the EU’s democratic deficit.
