Rafah Crossing: Who Holds the Keys?

  • Date
  • March 2009

Israel, Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, and Hamas are all preventing passage between Gaza and Egypt for political reasons, according to a new report issued by Gisha: Legal Center for Freedom of Movement and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel. The report, entitled Rafah Crossing: Who Holds the Keys?, shows that each party is denying its own accountability and pointing the finger at others, while 1.5 million people suffer.

Responsibility for this falls first and foremost on Israel; however, all parties involved are contributing to the systematic violation of the rights of Gaza residents. In light of the current political deadlock, Gisha and Physicians for Human Rights demand that Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Egypt take immediate and concrete action to open the crossing.

Gisha is a grantee of the Open Society Institute.
