Written Comments Concerning the Republic of Serbia for Consideration by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women

The European Roma Rights Centre, in partnership with Serbian NGOs Bibija, Eureka, and Women's Space submitted a parallel report to the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in advance of the May 2007 review of Serbia's compliance with the CEDAW Convention.

The research towards the report was carried out with the support of OSI's Roma Health Project. The report highlights violations of Roma women's rights in education, health care, and employment, as well as incidents of domestic violence and racially motivated abuse.

On June 1, 2007, in its concluding comments on the situation of Romani women in Serbia, CEDAW provided detailed recommendations to the Serbian government and called upon Serbia to take immediate action in the most critical areas such as domestic violence, education, and health care.
