A Conversation with Grupa Spomenik

Grupa Spomenik/Monument Group: “Studije Jugoslavjie” (November 7, 2011)

Since 2002, the critically acclaimed group of artists and theoreticians known as Grupa Spomenik (Monument Group) has created a public space for political and critical discussion of the 1990s Balkans wars and their consequences.

The group began their international work in 2008 with the project “Mathemes of Reassociation.” Examining the atrocities in the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995, Grupa Spomenik’s work explores how art can create its own discourse on the “contemporary-permanent-war.” Through Studije Jugoslavije, Grupa Spomenik generates a political space for debate and analysis.

Grupa Spomenik consists of Damir Arsenijevic, Ana Bezic, Jasmina Husanovic, Pavle Levi, Jelena Petrovic, Branimir Stojanovic, and Milica Tomic.

They recently took part in a panel discussion about their work. Listen above.
