Black Labor and the Economic Crisis
Open Society recently hosted a talk with Steven C. Pitts, labor policy specialist at the Center for Labor Research and Education, UC Berkeley.
Pitts focused on the job crisis facing the black community, with an emphasis on black men and the immigration reform movement. He presented data on black employment leading into the recession, the changing ethnic composition of occupations, and some pathways forward.
A grantee of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, Pitts is also the lead on a two-year project, funded by the Ford Foundation, designed to improve relations between blacks and Latino immigrants in the workplace.
