Evolving Perceptions of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Worldwide
At a recent talk, Open Society Fellow Mark Gevisser gave a work-in-progress report on his research into the global revolution of ideas that is changing the way people think about sexual orientation and gender identity—and the conflicts, crises, and opportunities this revolution is creating in different parts of the world.
Gevisser touched on the United States’ religious right’s incursions into African and Caribbean sexual politics, the sexual minorities’ rights movement in India, the rise of the LGBT party Ang Ladlad Partylist in the Philippines, LGBT refugees in South Africa, and the growing global campaign against Israel's “Pinkwashing” strategies.
