The Open Society Foundations U.S. Programs aims to address core threats to open society, including increasingly punitive national security policies, decreasing government transparency, entrenched structural racism, and growing incarceration rates.

  • Brandeis University Libraries 2012

    A grant to enable the Institute for Behavioral Health to develop a white paper setting out models for community-based financing that would support a broad range of cost-effective health and harm reduction services for all drug users, including those not engaged in treatment.

  • Californians for Safety and Justice 2012

    A grant to seed and support the first year of operations and programming of the Center for Public Safety and Justice project, which will provide the infrastructure for a multi-pronged, multi-year campaign for reducing significantly prison populations in the State of California.

    A grant to support the Capital Litigation Communications Project.

  • Carlos Garcia 2012

    Garcia, an activist and community organizer in Maricopa County, Arizona, will work to end the federal government’s collaboration with local law enforcement to detain and deport immigrants.

  • Casa De Maryland Inc. 2012

    A grant to support the National Immigrant Integration Conference, an annual conference sponsored by the National Partnership for New Americans, which will take place in Baltimore.
