The European Union devotes a substantial amount of its budget to promote social cohesion across different demographics. These funds target many marginalized groups, for example, people with disabilities, the long-term unemployed, or families at risk of poverty. Some of these groups include Roma.
The distribution of these funds and the management of programs is the responsibility of EU member states. They can be used to fund programs that target Roma specifically, or reach a wider demographic.
At the policy level the EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies—adopted in 2011—guides EU member states in addressing needs of Roma on areas including education, employment, and healthcare.
