The grandmothers of Africa have witnessed their own children, an entire generation of young parents, die of AIDS. They have become the primary caregivers for millions of orphaned grandchildren while contending with stigma and human rights abuses that include violence and land grabbing.

Join us for a screening of a moving new documentary from the Stephen Lewis Foundation that tells the stories of six courageous grandmothers from Kenya, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, and Zimbabwe who traveled to Canada in 2013 to give powerful public testimony before the African Grandmothers Tribunal. This people’s forum featured a panel of judges that included Gloria Steinem, Joy Phumaphi, Theo Sowa, and Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond.

A panel discussion and Q&A will follow.
