The Open Society Campaign for Black Male Achievement partnered with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to host its second Transformational Leadership Retreat: Transformational Times Require Transformational Leadership II. Since its last leadership retreat in 2010, the campaign has grown to include over 70 grantee partner organizations—a diverse community of educators, youth leaders, policy advocates, community organizers, academics, and philanthropists. During the retreat, participants were able to strengthen their relationships and collaborations with others in the field, share their leadership challenges, and learn about groundbreaking strategic communications research on black men and boys to utilize in their work.
The retreat was facilitated by Melinda Weekes of the Interactive Institute for Social Change and included special guest speaker Alonzo Mourning from Alonzo Mourning Charities. Close to 70 social justice leaders connected, recharged, and envisioned innovative ways to effectively respond to the opportunities to improve and increase opportunities for black men and boys in America.
