The International Renaissance Foundation promotes rights-based public health policy that has resulted in the development of substitution treatment and needle exchange centers throughout the country. The foundation has also supported the work of people living with HIV/AIDS to advocate for their rights. The foundation has played a key role in advocating for rights of people living with mental disabilities, and has launched a major campaign to bring Ukraine up to international standards for mental health care.
The foundation’s work on access to information has led to government declassification of over 1,500 documents illegally withheld from the public. It has also led natural resource revenue transparency efforts by engaging in budget monitoring activities, media trainings, and international advocacy to ensure fair and effective management of Ukraine’s oil and gas resources. The foundation’s efforts to reduce corruption in higher education have resulted in the institutionalization of anticorruption mechanisms in university admissions testing.
