One of India’s most influential journalists, P. Sainath has long covered rural poverty and the effects of globalization in India. In a recent discussion, he offered an insightful and withering analysis of rural development in India, with particular attention to “footloose” migration, rampant corporate corruption, and the growing curse of inequality. His acclaimed collection of columns, Everybody Loves a Good Drought, is considered one of the most important books on poverty and rural society.
