In the wake of the devastating terrorist attack on Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, on September 21, many Kenyan and international human rights defenders are concerned about possible human rights violations by Kenyan security forces as they investigate and seek accountability for the attack.
Please join us for a panel discussion on security and human rights in Kenya with two prominent Kenyan human rights defenders, Hussein Khalid and Francis Auma. They will be joined by the Open Society Justice Initiative’s Jonathan Horowitz, who recently completed a fact-finding mission in Kenya. Sarah Pray, senior policy analyst for African affairs at Open Society, will moderate.
The panelists will discuss their research into allegations of human rights abuses by the Kenyan security forces. They will offer recommendations on U.S. policy toward Kenya and, in particular, U.S. assistance to the Kenyan security forces during the ongoing investigation into the terror attacks.
