Ukraine’s Other Front: State of Play and Prospects on Reforms

Today Ukraine has to fight on two fronts—one to regain its territorial integrity against Russia’s aggression, and the second to implement reform. The two fronts are interlinked, and success on both will secure Ukraine’s future. Reform is a demand from the international community, supporting the Ukrainian fight for freedom and sovereignty. But primarily, reforms are a demand of the Ukrainian people, who are pushing the government to undertake steps to transform the country and help it emerge as a democratic and prosperous state.

Key questions for discussion include the following:

  • How much progress has been made with the reforms?
  • Is the Ukrainian government doing enough?
  • Is support from the international community sufficient to help Ukraine in these difficult times?
  • What is the impact of the recent local elections on the situation in the country, and on the territories affected by the conflict?
  • To what extent have the Minsk Agreements been implemented?
